One Graduate Degree has Opened Doors!

We, at the WVU Online Software Engineering Graduate Programs, are excited and proud of all our graduates for all they have accomplished. When we learn about their success we share them with the world!  Even when we don’t know, we know they are outstanding WVU Mountaineers hard at work.  Because, you know Mountaineers Go First!

Our recent graduate, Joe Oliverio, has been promoted! After the company he is working for heard about having earned the Master of Science in Software Engineering from WVU, he quickly advanced to his new position. Joe is currently working for a Fortune 500 company. The company decided to make him the business lead on a massive software project after he had just received the MSSE this year. He has weekly meetings with multiple Vice Presidents and has the opportunity to present his own work to the President of the company.  As he states in an e-mail to the WVU Online Software Engineering Graduate Program Director, “this degree has opened doors I never would have imagined for myself”.

Our Master of Science in Software Engineering has been designed to facilitate the learning experience and engagement with peers. Joe has expressed that the professors in the program went far beyond teaching software engineering principles and gave career and life advice. Every single one of the professors included their home phones on the syllabus and encouraged all students to call them.

Joe goes on to state, "this allowed us to grow intellectually, but also personably alongside my colleagues as we ventured through the program. The allotted guidance and direct contact provided me with the opportunity to seek guidance when necessary while building relationships with fellow individuals who sought the same career path as I did; we connected through our interests, thus propelling us far more in the program through our strengths and by finding a similar grounding in a career far different than most."

We are delighted to hear about his experience in the program, motivating us to continue our work to provide the same experience to all our students. Joe's experience in the software engineering program at WVU showed him that he was superior in areas he did not know he possessed. He expressed that he became an incredible coder, a better employee, and learned the knowledge necessary to succeed. Opportunities presented themselves in areas he least expected and he became flexible, knowledgeable, and skilled thanks to classes he took while enrolled at WVU.

Our Online Master of Science in Software Engineering at WVU is not just a higher degree, it is a degree with purpose, because we teach to make a difference in our students.

I am looking forward to hearing and writing more about our Alumni.
